New Delhi: Even after having a strong team on papers, title holders Mumbai Indians, haven`t quite performed so far in this season. Under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma, Mumbai lift their maiden IPL trophy last season, but this time around, the team failed to perform as a unit. As a result of their below par performance, they sit second from the bottom in the points tally, just above Delhi Daredevils.
Mumbai have played eight matches so far and have managed to win only two. When it comes to their batting line-up, they have Rohit, Michael Hussey, Aambati Rayudu, Lendl Simmons. On the other hand, their bowling department also has the experience of Lasith Malinga, Pragyan Ojha and Harbhajan Singh. Though they faced a big blow, when they lost Zaheer Khan – another veteran, due to back injury, it still looks more than a decent bowling line up.
This is not all, in the form of Kieron Pollard and Corey Anderson, they also have world`s two best all-rounders at their disposal. But even after having players of such stature, Mumbai are struggling to defend their title. Now they are at a stage from where they have to win all their remaining six league matches to secure a place in the play-offs. But from their current form, it looks highly unlikely.
But in the shortest format of the game, you can`t really predict. And most importantly MI have the fire power, as stated above, to turn the tables around. So it`s high time for the Rohit Sharma-led squad to pull up their socks and surprise everyone.
