New Delhi: He might not have been in the best of form, but form is something which doesn`t elude AB de Villiers for long. The South African right-hander ripped apart Sunrisers Hyderabad`s bowling attack, and played a match-winning innings which was a delight to watch for the cricket fans all across the world.
Chasing 155, RCB were in a precarious position when they lost three wickets with just 38 runs on the board. Kohli was dismissed for a second-ball duck, and things became worse when Chris Gayle (27) was dismissed by Karn Sharma in the seventh over of the innings.
But with the kind of champion that he is, AB kept himself cool and stitched a crucial 36-run partnership with Yuvraj Singh for the fifth wicket. But the highlight of the innings was the 57-run partnership between AB and Mitchell Starc for the sixth-wicket, where the latter`s contribution was just 5 runs.
RCB needed 40 runs to win from 24 balls, which was reduced to 37 from 18, after Dale Steyn bowled a brilliant third over. But when the speedster bowled the penultimate over of the innings, AB unleashed some breathtaking strokes and clobbered him for three sixes and a boundary. Steyn conceded 24 runs in his final over and that changed the complexion of the game.
AB remained unbeaten on 89 off just 41 balls, and was rightly adjudged the Man of the Match for his heroic effort.
After AB`s incredible innings, RCB are now ranked fourth in the points table with three wins from six matches.
Chris Gayle congratulated AB on his fantastic innings through his personal account on micro-blogging site Twitter.
