New Delhi: Kings XI Punjab, who have played sensational cricket throughout the Indian Premier League`s seventh edition, will now face resurgent Kolkata Knight Riders in the final on Sunday at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore.
The Australian, George Bailey-led side has emerged as a force to reckon with in IPL-7. If Glenn Maxwell and David Miller helped their side to start off the tournament on a positive note, then players like Sandeep Sharma, Akshar Patel and Manan Vohra assist their team to continue the winning momentum, by their notable performances.
Consistent performance helped the Punjab side to remain at the top of the points table, most of the times during the league games. And the way they beat Chennai Super Kings in the virtual semi-final must have given the team a much needed confidence before the final. But the icing on the cake was certainly the blistering knock that came from the bat of their opener Virender Sehwag on Friday. The veteran scored a whirlwind knock of 122 off mere 50 balls, with the help of twelve boundaries and eight sixes.
It`s a good news for the Punjab franchise, that the old warhorse that they picked during the auction is proving his worth and that too at such a crucial juncture of the tournament.
Now, it would be interesting to see, whether KXIP, who have reached the final of the tournament for the very first time, can lift their maiden trophy or not.
