With in a few minutes, Delhi Daredevils will lock horns against Kolkata Knight Riders in the 28th match of the Indian Premier League at Freoz Shah Kotla, Delhi.
After losing four consecutive matches, Kolkata will look to get back to the wining ways in today`s tie against Delhi, who are still struggling to play as a unit under their skipper Kevin Pietersen.
The major worry for Kolkata is their batting which has failed to perform consistently even in the second leg of the tournament, which is taking place in India. Though, skipper Gautam Gambhir is now getting his lost form back and even found a decent opening partner in Robin Uthappa, the middle order is still struggling to score runs. In fact in the last game against Rajasthan Royals they were cruising to victory when they suddenly lost six wickets in two overs and eventually lost the game.
In today`s encounter two senior pros -- Jacques Kallis and Sunil Narine -- should come up and play the match-winning roles for their team, to boost up the team morale which seems all time low after four consecutive losses. Both the players are in fine form and have the potential to change the course of the game single-handedly.
Both the teams have won two matches so far in the tournament and need to pull up their socks to finish at least in the top three. If Kolkata are at the fifth position at he points table, then Delhi are right at the bottom after having suffered their fifth loss against Rajasthan.
In the last game Delhi batsmen did well to put up a total of 178 runs in front of the Chennai franchise but their bowlers failed to defend the total. It`s high time that team skipper, Kevin Pietersen should play according to his reputation and lead the team with examples. The self belief is simply lacking in the DD players.
In today`s tie Delhi might get a slight advantage of playing at home ground along with the psychological edge of beating KKR in their last outing in Dubai.
Both the teams will look to put their best foot forward in the match to gain some much needed confidence.
Kolkata Knight Riders: Gautam Gambhir (c), Sunil Narine, Jacques Kallis, Robin Uthappa, Yusuf Pathan, Shakib Al Hasan, Umesh Yadav, Vinay Kumar, Morne Morkel, Piyush Chawla, Manish Pandey, Veer Pratap Singh, Chris Lynn, Andre Russell, Sayan Sekhar Mandal, Pat Cummins, Debabrata Das, Suryakumar Yadav, Manvinder Bisla, Ryan ten Doeschate, Kuldeep Yadav.
