New Delhi: Rajasthan Royals is a side which has the reputation of promoting young talent, and they were once again rewarded for it when Karun Nair – their 22-year-old opener, played a match-winning innings against Delhi Daredevils on their home ground at the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium.
Nair, who was playing in his third match for the Shane Watson-led side, carried his bat throughout the innings and scored 73 runs off just 50 balls.
Nair was included in the squad after Abhishek Nayar failed to contribute much with the bat at the top of the order. The left-hander played four matches in the UAE leg of the Indian Premier League, where he could score 43 runs in total.
Nair, too, couldn`t do much in his first two matches for Rajasthan where he scored just nine runs. But against the Delhi Daredevils, he unleashed some breathtaking strokes and showed a lot of maturity.
Nair was involved in a 50-run partnership with Sanju Samson for the second wicket, followed by two more crucial partnerships with Rajat Bhatia and skipper Watson.
Rajasthan are a well balanced side, and Nair`s form would only strengthen their chances of winning their second IPL title.
