IPL franchisees against shifting CL to South Africa

New Delhi: The Champions League’s governing council will be meeting later this month to finalise whether the tournament will be shifted out of India to South Africa this year.
Durga Puja and monsoon are being cited as the reasons for shifting as their timings will coincide with the schedule of the tournament.
However, the IPL franchisees and the broadcaster are not gung-ho about the idea.
“They (BCCI) and the governing council members, anyway, don’t take our views before deciding on the venue, but we will insist that the tournament be played in India,” DNA quoted an official of a franchise as saying.
“We’ll resist. If the push comes to shove, we will play. We’ll have no choice then,” he added.
The IPL teams have their reasons for resisting the plan as they fear revenue loss.
South Africa had previously hosted the Champions League in 2010.
