IPL 9: Yuvraj Singh ruled out of IPL 2016 for at least two weeks due to injury

New Delhi: Sunrisers Hyderabad was served a huge below ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) season 9 after star batsman Yuvraj Singh is set to miss at least the first two weeks of the mega event starting from Saturday.

Yuvraj is recovering from an ankle injury that he picked up during the recently concluded ICC World T20 in the game against Australia.

SRH coach Tom Moody said on Thursday that Yuvi will be out for a couple of weeks and that the time frame is unknown for his return.

“Sadly, Yuvraj will be out for a couple of weeks but we don’t know how long that is going to be,” Sunrisers Hyderabad coach Tom Moody said IPL's official website.

Moody went on to say that a player like Yuvi is not only a match-winner but an useful bowler.

“A player like Yuvraj Singh is important to any team. He is not only a match-winner with the bat, but he is a very useful bowler in those middle overs."

The former Australia cricketer said that the franchise bought Yuvraj in order to strengthen the middle order.

"Going into the auction, we were aware that we needed to strengthen our middle order. Hence, we targeted players like Yuvraj and Deepak Hooda to give us that depth in our middle order and they complement what we already have in our squad."

Yuvi, who plied his trade for Delhi Daredevils last season, was bought in the auctions by SRH for a whooping sum of Rs. 7 crore.
