IPL 2015: Delhi Daredevils vs Kings XI Punjab - As it happened...

New Delhi: Delhi Daredevils won the Match 31 of Indian Premier League 2015 at Ferozeshah Kotla Ground in Delhi. JP Duminy's side got the better of a clueless Kings XI Punjab side by nine wickets with 37 balls remaining.

Delhi Daredevils innings, target 119

Over 13.6 || 119/1 (Agarwal 52; Tiwary 5)

Good win for struggling Delhi Daredevils. Axar Patel gave away the winning run through a wide. A delivery earlier, Saurabh Tiwary hit him for a for through the midwicket.

Delhi won the match by nine wickets with 37 balls remaining.

Over 13 || 88/0 (Agarwal 51; Tiwary 0)

Too little, too late for Bailey's Punjab. Thakur got the wicket of his Mumbai team-mate Iyer, but the opener had done his job.

WICKET: Shreyas Iyer c Axar Patel b Shardul Thakur 54 (40b)

Saurabh Tiwary joined Agarwal -- who just reached his 50 with a delectable cut shot through the square off Thakur -- in the centre. Delhi now need seven runs to win the match.

Over 12 || 88/0 (Iyer 54; Agarwal 40)

Fifty for Shreyas Iyer with a four. He took 38 deliveries to reach the mini-milestone, with the help of three fours and three sixes. Perera conceded 13 runs in his second over as Delhi looked to seal an easy win at home. They now need 18 runs from 48 deliveries.

Over 11 || 88/0 (Iyer 47; Agarwal 34)

That was Axar's second over. Anureet returned into the attack and found himself wanting in all fronts. Agarwal took a single off the first ball, then Iyer hit two back-to-back fours. The over leaked 13 runs.

Over 10 || 75/0 (Iyer 38; Agarwal 32)

Busy over. Both Agarwal and Iyer milked the tenth over taking singles off the fist five deliveries, then Iyer, out of the blue, lofted the last sixth delivery for a huge six over the mid-wicket boundary.

Delhi now required 44 more runs from 60 balls, with 10 wickets in hand.

Over 9 || 64/0 (Iyer 30; Agarwal 30)

After that 18-run over, Thakur returned to bowl his second. Iyer started with a single, followed by three more singles, then Agarwal got enough room to dispatch the fourth ball for a four through the third man area.

Nine runs from the over, and the Strategic Time-Out.

Over 8 || 55/0 (Iyer 28; Agarwal 24)

Axar Patel started his spell with a five-run over. Nothing much to worry for the spinner, but Punjab will need much more than containing the run-rate. Delhi now need 64 more runs from 12 overs.

Over 7 || 50/0 (Iyer 25; Agarwal 22)

Bailey introduced experienced Sri Lankan bowler Thisara Perera and the over went for nine runs. Not entirely what the skipper had hoped for. Iyer faced the first ball, for a single, then two singles later, Agarwal pulled one for four. It was followed with two more singles. This is the first half-century opening stand for Delhi this season.

Over 6 || 41/0 (Iyer 22; Agarwal 16)

Anureet started his second over with a strayed delivery, which was punished by  Mayank Agarwal with a four through the fine leg cordon. After three deliveries, Iyer wanted to steal a single but David Miller from the point produced a brilliant fielding to stop the attempt. But it resulted to a single, ricocheting from the stumps. The over leaked eight runs. Delhi now needs 78 more runs from 14 overs.

Over 5 || 33/0 (Iyer 20; Agarwal 10)

Lucky to have sailed it for a six. The ball was hurrying into the bat, but Agarwal generated just enough power from his swing to clear the mid-wicket boundary for a six.

Sandeep Singh, who has been bowling well, must have been disappointed to see that shot. Every now and then, he has been able to trouble both the batsmen, keeping it simple and straight.

Over 4 || 26/0 (Iyer 20; Agarwal 3)

After the expensive over from Thakur, Gorge Baily brought in Anureet Singh. Good start from the former Kolkata Knight Riders bowler, conceded only three runs, which included a wide too.

Over 3 || 23/0 (Iyer 19; Agarwal 2)

Sandeep Sharma's probing spell continued. But Punjab are yet to find the break they wanted. The 21-year-old conceded two runs in his second over. Agarwal started the over with dot ball, then took a single. Iyer consumed the remaining deliveries, but yielded only one run that too from a leg-bye.

Delhi now need 96 runs from 17 overs.

Over 2 || 19/0 (Iyer 19; Agarwal 1)

Not so encouraging signs for one of the Ranji Trophy stars. Shardul Thakur was subjected to rather rude welcoming by his Ranji team-mate Iyer in Delhi today. Thakur was hit for two successive sixes by Iyer, and the pace bowler's first IPL over went for 19 runs.

Over 1 || 2/0 (Iyer 1; Agarwal 1)

Patient start to the chase for Delhi Daredevils. Punjab's opening bowler Sandeep Sharma put the ball in right length and area to get enough purchase to keep quite both Sheyas Iyer and Mayank Agarwal.

Kings XI Punjab Innings

Over 20 || 118/6 (Anureet 8; Thakur 7)

Ten runs from the last over made it just under six an over rate for Punjab. Imran failed to take a single wicket today. The spinner got his chance, but Yuvraj Singh spilled a catch.

The innings ended with a huge six by Anureet Singh.

Over 19 || 108/6 (Thakur 5; Anureet 0)

Double wicket from Nathan Coulter-Nile.

With only 12 balls remaining, Axar Patel tried to increase the run-rate. But his attempt was foiled in the first instance. He wa holed out at long-on, with Mayank Agarwal completing a neat catch. It was Nathan Coulter-Nile's third wicket of the match.

WICKET: Axar R Patel c Mayank Agarwal b Nathan Coulter-Nile 22 (26b)

Three balls later, danger man David Miller departed trying another big hit. Saurabh Tiwary took an easy catch at cover boundary.

WICKET: David Miller c Saurabh Tiwary b Nathan Coulter-Nile 42 (41b)

With that Nathan Coulter-Nile completed his four overs for an impressive figure: 4-0-20-4.

Anureet Singh and Shardul Thakur are the new men.

Over 18 || 102/6 (Miller 41; Patel 22)

A 57-run partnership between David Miller and Axar Patel helped Kings XI Punjab reach 100-run mark. In the 18th over, Angelo Mathews conceded five runs, all to singles.

Over 17 || 97/6 (Miller 39; Patel 19)

Experienced Zaheer Khan returned to put a brake on the Punjab scoring rate. He gave away five runs to complete his qouta of four overs. His figures read: 4-0-17-2. Excellent effort from the old-pro.

Over 16 || 92/6 (Miller 37; Patel 16)

And for the first time in the match, Punjab batsmen are playing with some authority, with lots of confidence. Patel started with a single off Tahir, then Miller hit his South African compatriot for a huge six over the mid-on area, then followed it up with a four through the covers. Two balls later, five wides make the over most expensive of the innings. 18 runs from it.

Over 15 || 64/6 (Miller 26; Patel 14)

Probably, Patel's six in the last over spurred Miller to play aggressive. The South African has hit two fours off Mathews for ten runs this over. With that the innings run-rate has reached 4.93. Huge improvement.

Over 14 || 64/6 (Miller 17; Patel 13)

Then, after the Time Out, Imran Tahir finally got his chance to bowl. He started pretty well, conceding a single to Patel, then Miller played out three balls for a single, then Patel returned to hit the South African out of the park, for the first SIX of the match.

Over 13 || 56/6 (Miller 16; Patel 6)

JP Duminy introduced Angelo Mathews. And the Sri Lankan has started with good opening spell. Only four runs from the over. If Punjab are to post a respectable total, this partnership will need to stay till the end.

Over 12 || 48/6 (Miller 15; Patel 4)

After Duminy, Mishra has taken over the reigns. Conceded only four runs in his second over. For Punjab, however, the presence of Miller in the centre is reassuring, and can hope for a total worth fighting for.

Over 11 || 48/6 (Miller 13; Patel 2)

Another brilliant over for Delhi. Duminy has completed his quota of four overs, and mind you, he is not playing as a specialist bowler. Only two runs from the over as Punjab batsmen continue their struggle against slow ones.

Over 10 || 46/6 (Miller 12; Patel 1)

Half-way to the Punjab innings, but there is no sign of exigency in their batting despite losing those five wickets. Just when they were looking to up the tempo, Nathan Coulter-Nile removed Thisara Perera.

WICKET: Thisara Perera c Saurab Tiwary b Nathan Coulter-Nile 3 (7b)

Brilliant over. Brilliant captaincy. Great catch by Saurab Tiwary at the deep. With that all-rounder designated Axar Patel arrived in the centre.

Over 9 || 43/5 (Miller 11; Perera 3)

Quick over from Duminy, as Delhi continued to restrict Punjab batsmen. The over went for six runs. Miller took a single off the first ball, then Perera took his own time playing out a dot ball, then the Sri Lankan rotated the strike, allowing Miller to take a couple more runs. Two more singles followed.

Over 8 || 37/5 (Miller 7; Perera 0)

David Miller finally started to open up. Got a boundary off Amit Mishra's second delivery, thanks to an expansive sweep. Delhi skipper, knowing well enough that the pitch is favouring slow-turning spells, introduced Mishra.

Then, Bailey departed off the final ball of the over. The slow, straight delivery was hitting the stumps, and the umpire took no time in raising his finger.

WICKET: George Bailey lbw b Amit Mishra 18 (16b)

Thisara Perera is the new man.

Over 7 || 31/4 (Bailey 17; Miller 2)

JP Duminy, sensing the rush in the Kings XI Punjab's batting, brought himself on for a change in the bowling attack. He was successful in the first change, in the second over, but this time, he settled without taking a wicket. But did his work. Gave away only four runs, all singles.

Over 6 || 27/4 (Bailey 15; Miller 0)

First big over for Kings XI Punjab as Bailey came to the fore and punish Nathan Coulter-Nile. The over went for 11 runs, which includes two boundaries -- both from the blade of Aussie batsman. Delhi took strategic Time-Out.

Over 5 || 16/4 (Bailey 6; Miller 0)

For the first time, Kings XI Punjab have played out an over without losing wicket. Great work, considering how they lost four wickets in the first four overs.

Bailey started his knock with a four off Zaheer, through the square leg. He needs to play a captain's knock today to save KXIP.

Over 4 || 11/4 (Miller 0; Bailey 1)

Another brilliant over for Delhi. Nathan Coulter-Nile started his spell in a great fashion, taking the wicket of Saha. Another caught behind, as another Punjab batsman poked to a good lenght-line delivery.

WICKET: Wriddhiman Saha c Kedhar Jadhav b Nathan Coulter-Nile 3 (8b

And thus arrived skipper George Bailey in the centre.

In this rate, the innings will be over in the tenth over.

Over 3 || 10/3 (Saha 2; Miller 0)

Worst possible start from the visitors. Lost another wicket, this time Manan Vohra to an inspired Zaheer Khan. Vohra was cramped for room, and ended up offering an easy catch to wicket-keeper.

WICKET: Manan Vohra c Kedar Jadhav b Zaheer Khan 1 (7b)

David Miller is the new batsman.

Over 2 || 9/2 (Vohra 1; Saha 2)

Delhi skipper brought himself on the attack and soon got the prized wicket of Shaun March. His fullish delivery caught the Aussie batsman in front, for LBW.

WICKET: Shaun Marsh lbw b JP Duminy 5 (4b)

Wriddhiman Saha is the new player. Pathetic start from the Punjab players.

Over 1 || 6/1 (Vohra 0; Marsh 5)

Zaheer Khan almost got the break off the very first ball of the match. Virender Sehwag lofted, half heartedly, over the mid-on, for which the opener got a couple.

Then, the WICKET of Viru. His drive off a length delivery ended up in the hands of Angelo Matthews at cover.

WICKET: Virender Sehwag c Angelo Mathews b Zaheer Khan 1 (2b)

Manan Vohra joined Shaun Marsh in the centre.

Like the Delhi outfit, the team from Punjab are also struggling in the eighth edition of the IPL. Having lost five of the seven matches so far, and on the back two back-to-back defeats, George Bailey's side need a re-start. And a win today will surely give their bruised ego a boost.
