New Delhi: One of the two new franchise competing in the 2016 edition of Indian Premier League (IPL), Gujarat Lions on Saturday announced the city of Kanpur as their new home ground for the remainder of the season.
The Intex Technologies-owned franchise has hosted their home matches at Rajkot, and Keshav Bansal, Director of Intex Technologies acknowledged the fact that they have received huge support from the Gujarat city.
But the owner of the franchise also shared his elation to bring the cash-rich tournament to Uttar Pradesh.
"Fans in Rajkot have been our strength and we are overwhelmed with the love and support we have received from them. It is our honour and privilege to now bring IPL to the state of Uttar Pradesh and play our remaining home matches at Kanpur. We are very excited and enthused by our performance thus far and we are confident of receiving the same love and affection from fans in Kanpur," he said.
The Suresh Raina-led side will play their remaining two home games this season at Kanour's historic Green Park. And this will be the first time that the world's premier Twenty20 cricket league is playing in UP, one of the traditional hubs of Indian cricket.
Gujarat will take on Kolkata Knight Riders and Mumbai Indians at the Green Park Stadium in Kanpur on May 19 and 21 respectively.
