New Delhi: Hugely talented Australian batsman Steve Smith credited the Indian Premier League (IPL) for developing his game, according to reports. The right-handed batsman has been in an imperious form scoring abundantly in all forms of the game.

Smith, who will turn-out for Rajasthan Royals in the 2015 season, said that the IPL has been a great learning experience for him.

"I have really enjoyed being involved in the IPL. It's been a great learning experience," the former player of now disbanded Pune Warriors was quoted as saying.

After a fortuitous break into the Australian team thanks to a Michael Clarke' hamstring injury, the 25-year-old has seized the opportunity with both hands. Smith started the summer with an impressive series against South Africa, wherein he scored 254 runs in four matches at and average of 84.66.

Then the India series defined his career. Despite the extra burden of leading the side in absence of skipper Clarke, he went onto script a personal story of exemplary class replete with finesse. In the high-profile Border-Gavaskar series, he plundered runs, creating records galore. His aggregate of 769 runs in the four Tests series at an average of 128.17 was legendary.

Then, he followed it with a World Cup winning performance – scoring five successive scores above 50, including a century against India in the semi-final.

"I got the exposure to the subcontinent conditions. It is nice to be playing with and against the best players all around the world and learning from them," he went onto say.
