Super Saturday: IPL record breakers, league winners and other sports stories

New Delhi: A hot Saturday afternoon in Bangalore witnessed an already fast-pace Twenty20 cricket being transformed into a simulation driven sport, wherein two of the greatest modern-day batsmen create records galore.

Royal Challengers Bangalore's season reviving record 144-run win over an otherwise power-packed Gujarat Lions witnessed AB de Villiers and Virat Kohli, once again, changing the very definition of stroke-making.

If that's about Indian Premier League, certainly the greatest of all cricket leagues, then in Spain, a certain Luis Suarez scored yet another hat-trick to help Barcelona defend La Liga title on the last day. Yes, Cristiano Ronaldo was also there with Real Madrid, but were beaten by a single point.

The Iberian Peninsula continues to be the centre of other sporting actions too, with Spanish Grand Prix happening in Catalonia.

And there, Formula One's defending champion Lewis Hamilton produced an error free drive on his Mercedes to beat his 'unbeatable' team-mate Nico Rosberg to the pole. Expect lots of drama tomorrow, on the race day.

The ongoing tussle, in fact the Olympics war in India, between legend Sushil Kumar and his protege Narsingh Pancham Yadav continues today with the two-time Olympic medallist writing to to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Talking about Olympics sports, Rio-bound Sudha Singh broke the national women's 3000m steeplechase record at the Shanghai Diamond League.

Then, there's also a bit dampner too. The second IPL match of the day between two-time champions Kolkata Knight Riders and MS Dhoni's Rising Pune Supergiants were interrupted by rain. Under revised playing conditions, KKR were given a target of 66 runs in nine overs.

Elsewhere, England-bound  Pep Guardiola signed off his three years in the Bundesliga with a `beer shower` as Bayern Munich lifted a fourth straight German league title.

It was Guardiola`s 20th trophy as a coach after 14 in four years with Barcelona and now six in three years in Munich before leaving to coach Manchester City next season.

Continuing with football, Arsenal fans get themselves some joy witnessing their Ladies beating Chelsea counterparts to lift the Women's FA Cup in front of a competition record crowd of 32,912 at Wembley Stadium.

Knowing Arsenal's inability ot beat Chelsea in men's games, the win should at least give an embattled Arsene Wenger some respite.

In tennis, world number one Serena Williams set up an all-American final with Madison Keys, at the Italian Open.

In Rome, birthday boy Andy Murray awaits the winner of Novak Djokovic-Kei Nishikori semi-final match for a final date. The Japanese had won the first set 6-2, and was leading 3-2 on serve.
