Jammu: Jammu, the winter capital of Jammu and Kashmir, will hold T20 Premier League Cricket in February next year.
A mega cricket event under `Jammu Premier League` (JPL) will be held in Jammu in February and April next year, Minister for Medical Education, Technical Education, Youth Services and Sports R S Chib said here today.
The T20 tournament will be conducted on a grand scale in which premier cricket clubs would participate, the minister said while discussing the modalities of the event at a high level meeting here.
The tournament will be played at the district level in first phase and the qualifying teams would participate in the second phase, to be played in league format, he said adding that district sports officers will be the nodal officers for the tourney.
Chib referred to the similar tournament, Kashmir Premier League (KPL), held in Srinagar which turned out to be a grand success with cricketers and lovers of the game participating in a big way this summer.
He said the Jammu Premier League too will be organized on the same pattern.
Chib directed the constitution of Committees at district level for effective and successful conduct of the event. He said the objective of holding such a mega event is to give big fillip to sports activities, particularly in rural and far off pockets of the state.
"This will be a regular feature now and such events would help polishing the unexplored sports potential in the rural areas," he said.
