Joe Root is future of England cricket, says Michael Vaughan

New Delhi: Former England captain on Sunday said fans could bank on young batsman Joe Root as the future of country's cricket team.

Vaughan's comments came after Root scored a century against Sri Lanka as England posted a big score, which was eventually chased down rather easily by the Lankan batsmen.

So far in the World Cup, England have been comprehensively beaten by all the Test playing nations in their Pool, with their only win coming against Scotland.

Vaughan took to social micro-blogging site Twitter to express his sentiments.

Despite the gloom surrounding English cricket, Vaughan felt that Root had the character and attitude that was necessary to take England cricket forward.
