Chennai: Kerala openers Abhishek Hegde (74) and V A Jagadeesan (98) laid the foundation to set a winning target of 320 runs in 90 overs to Maharashtra in the two-day final of the BCCI All India Buchi Babu cricket tournament on Monday.
After the two openers shared 165 runs in 46.5 overs for the opening wicket, Kerala, who were 208 for 2 at the fall of captain Jagadeesan, crumbled, losing eight wickets for little over 100 runs.
Hedge`s individual 74 came from 143 balls (7x4, 3x6), while Jagadeesan, who top-scored with 98 had occupied the crease for 221 minutes and had hit 12 fours and a six facing 178 balls.
Left-hander K A Rakesh batted well before being bowled by off-spinner Chirag Khurana for 46 (65b, 4x4 and 3x6) and Robert Fernandez chipped in with 25.
For Maharashtra, new ball bowler Samad Fallah claimed three for 91 and Chirag took three for 54 while medium pacer Domnic Joseph Muthusamy and left arm spinner Ajinkya Joshi took 2/63 and 2/83 respectively.
