Debate on Balika Vadhu in Parliament

A demand to stop telecast of `Balika Vadhu` was made in the Lok Sabha.

New Delhi, July 14: A demand for stopping the telecast of popular TV serial Balika Vadhu was made by a member in the Lok Sabha today claiming that it promotes child marriage.In Balika Vadhu serial a girl child has been shown married which goes against the established law of this country, JD(U) leader Sharad Yadav said during the Question Hour and asked whether the government would take action against this and other such programmes.
Replying to the question, Information and Broadcasting Minister Ambika Soni said a committee has been set up to monitor television channels. "Whatever law is available, we can act accordingly. In the last 2-3 years government has issued advisories to 277 channels or sought an apology from them," she said. The Minister, however, said she would look into the complaint by Yadav and inform him accordingly. Bureau Report
