Kumar Sangakkara becomes second Sri Lankan to breach 19000-run mark in first-class cricket

New Delhi: Despite retiring from international cricket, former Sri Lankan batsman Kumar Sangakkara just cannot shake off his old habit of breaking batting records.

On Monday, the stylish left-hander reached the 19000-run mark in first class cricket.

Batting for Surrey, the 38-year-old reached the milestone against Nottinghamshire in the ongoing County Championship.

Needing 18 to get to the celebrated figure, the southpaw scored 29 runs before becoming a victim of Stephen Mullaney.

The only Sri Lankan with more runs than him is Gehan Mendis.

Mendis, who never played for the Sri Lankan side, has 2425 more runs than Sanga.

Behind the former Lankan skipper is his best friend Mahela Jayawardene with 17,843 runs.
