Langer says he tried for Australia head coach job

Melbourne: Australia`s batting coach Justin Langer On Monday revealed that he tried without success for the head coach`s job, which ultimately went to South African Mickey Arthur.

"It was a good process. I just thought that somewhere down the track I`d like to, well, coach Australia of course," Langer said on the opening day of the first Test between India and Australia in Melbourne.

"It was maybe a little premature with my lack of experience, but I`ve really enjoyed my years here and I`m gaining great experience in what I`m doing now."

Langer took over as batting coach in 2009, within months of his fist-class retirement.

Arthur became Australia`s first foreign cricket coach after a revamp suggested by the Argus Review panel earlier this year.
