Colombo: Payments due to Sri Lanka`s national cricketers since the conclusion of the ICC World Cup in April will be fully settled by December 15, Sports minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage told Parliament on Thursday.

"A sum of rupees 347 million have to be paid to cricketers. The first installment would be paid this week," Aluthgamage said in an oral reply to a question.

He said that a sum of USD 6. 4 million was due from the ICC on account of Sri Lanka hosting the World Cup alongside India and Bangladesh.

"This payment was held up due to audit not being ready. It was finished yesterday enabling us to receive the ICC money," said Aluthgamage.

Sri Lanka`s once cash-rich cricket governing body, SLC went into red following the World Cup. It said that construction of two new stadiums at Hambantota and Pallekele and upgrading of facilities at the Premadasa stadium in Colombo, which hosted the World Cup games, caused additional burden on the board`s finances.

The opposition legislator Ravi Karunanayake alleged that Sri Lanka`s successive defeats since the World Cup was due to players being distracted by the non-payment of their contract fees.
