Winslet had no miserable childhood: Teacher

Kate Winslet has time and again talked about her miserable adolescence and poor upbringing but her teacher claims that actress` rise to stardom is no rags-to-riches story.

London, May 04: Oscar winner Kate Winslet has time and again talked about her miserable adolescence and poor upbringing but her teacher claims that actress` rise to stardom is no rags-to-riches story. In a recent interview to Marie Claire magazine, the actress had claimed that she came from a working class family.
The Titanic star also recalled miserable times and loneliness during her school days at Redroofs but the principal of the school says that Winslet was outstandingly popular with the pupils, the Daily Mail reported. "There has been a lot of nonsense written over the years about Kate and her childhood. I read that she was bullied and the other children locked her in a cupboard, but if that did happen, it certainly wasn`t here," June Rose, the principal of Redroofs, said. "I`ve read a lot about her being overweight as a child, but it`s not true... Kate was a perfectly normal, healthy schoolgirl," Rose said. Winslet has often described how her family lived off the government allowance benefit and how her parents took on part-time jobs to make ends meet. However, despite a lack of ready cash, the actress did her schooling from the Redroofs, then based in Reading, at a cost of 1,000 pounds a term. "Kate has no hidden background or miracle story of a journey from the slums. It doesn`t exist!," Rose said adding, "She had a very nice, sensible and theatrical family. It certainly wasn`t a question of abject poverty." Bureau Report
