Bangladesh were set a target of 550 runs to win the second and final Test in Dhaka after Pakistan declared their second innings at 195-6 on the third day on Friday.

Pakistan did not enforce the follow-on despite gaining a first-innings lead of 354 runs as they looked to put Bangladesh under pressure on the wearing pitch at the Sher-e-Bangla stadium.

Skipper Misbah-ul Haq led the charge with a 72-ball 82 before closing the innings soon after his dismissal in the post-tea session.

Day 3 Tea report

Pakistan were 92 for three in their second innings at tea on the third day of the second and final Test against Bangladesh in Dhaka on Friday, taking their overall lead to 446 runs.

Younis Khan was unbeaten on 30 and skipper Misbah-ul Haq was on 22 with the tourists looking to set Bangladesh a giant target on the wearing pitch at the Sher-e-Bangla stadium.

Misbah, attempting a series-clinching win after the first Test in Khulna was drawn last week, did not enforce the follow-on despite securing a lead of 354 runs.

Bangladesh, who resumed at the overnight score of 107-5, were bowled out for 203 in their first innings shortly before lunch.

When Pakistan batted a second time, Mohammad Hafeez was dismissed before lunch off the fourth ball of the innings, caught behind off hard-working seamer Mohammad Shahid.

Shahid struck again soon after resumption when he removed Sami Aslam, before Azhar Ali, a double-centurion in the first innings, became Soumya Sarkar`s first Test victim after making 25.

The hosts conceded the huge lead despite a brilliant counter-attack by Shakib Al Hasan, who made an unbeaten 89 off 91 balls with 14 boundaries and two sixes.

Shakib, who was on 27 when the eighth wicket fell at the total of 140, smashed 62 of the 63 runs he added for the ninth wicket with Mohammad Shahid, who held his end for nine overs.

The left-hander raced to his half-century with two consecutive boundaries off leg-spinner Yasir Shah and celebrated the landmark with a six later in the same over.

Bangladesh had added six runs to their overnight total when Sarkar was snapped up at short cover off Wahab Riaz, who then dismissed Shuvagata Hom for zero in his next over.

The innings terminated when Shahid was dismissed by Yasir because the injured Shahadat Hossain was unable to bat.

Wahab and Yasir picked up three wickets each. Pakistan made 557-8 declared in their first innings.

Day 3 Lunch report

Pakistan overcame a brilliant counter-attack by Shakib Al Hasan to build on their supremacy over Bangladesh on the third day of the second and final Test in Dhaka on Friday.

Shakib returned unbeaten on 89 off 91 balls after the hosts, who resumed at the overnight score of 107-5, were bowled out for 203 in their first innings shortly before lunch.

Pakistan captain Misbah-ul Haq did not enforce the follow-on despite a lead of 354 runs, and the tourists went to lunch at 7-1 in their second knock at the Sher-e-Bangla stadium.

Sami Aslam was unbeaten on three and Azhar Ali was on four after Mohammad Hafeez was caught behind off Mohammad Shahid in the first over of the innings.

Bangladesh added six runs to their overnight total when Soumya Sarkar was snapped up at short cover off Wahab Riaz, who then dismissed Shuvagata Hom for zero in his next over.

Shakib, who was on 27 when Taijul Islam was bowled by Mohammad Hafeez to make it 140-8, lashed out at the Pakistani bowlers to add a further 62 runs to his score.

The left-hander raced to his half-century with two consecutive boundaries off leg-spinner Yasir Shah and celebrated the landmark with a six later in the same over.

Shakib hit 14 boundaries and two sixes, scoring 62 of the 63 runs he added for the ninth wicket with Shahid, who held his end for nine overs to allow the senior partner to boost the total.

The innings terminated when Shahid was dismissed by Yasir since the injured Shahadat Hossain did not come out to bat.

Wahab and Yasir Shah picked up three wickets each. Pakistan had made 557-8 declared in their first innings.

The first Test ended in a draw in Khulna last week.

Day 2 roundup

Azhar Ali smashed a career-best 226 and Asad Shafiq made 107 before the bowlers rattled Bangladesh`s top order to leave Pakistan on top in the second and final Test in Dhaka on Thursday.

The pair put on 207 for the fifth wicket as Pakistan posted 557 for eight before declaring their first innings during the tea interval at the Sher-e-Bangla stadium.

Bangladesh tottered to 107 for five in reply by stumps, still 450 runs behind and facing the daunting prospect of batting for a major part of the remaining three days to avoid defeat.

Left-arm seamer Junaid Khan set the hosts back by trapping Tamim Iqbal, who hit a double-century in the drawn first Test in Khulna, leg-before with the fourth delivery of the innings.

Junaid also had Mominul Haque caught behind by Sarfraz Ahmed for 13 and leg-spinner Yasir Shah bowled Imrul Kayes for 32 to reduce Bangladesh to 69-3.

Wahab Riaz had Mohammad Mahmudullah fending a catch to short-leg and skipper Mushfiqur Rahim was bowled by Yasir off the last ball of the day. Shakib Al Hasan was unbeaten on 14.

Pakistan lost skipper Misbah-ul Haq in the day`s second over, bowled by Shakib for nine, before a run had been added to the overnight score of 323 for three.

But Azhar and Shafiq denied Bangladesh another success till just before the tea break when four wickets fell in the space of 27 runs as Pakistan slipped from 530-4 to 557-8.The 30-year-old Azhar, who had been rescued by a no-ball early on the first day after being caught in the slips off seamer Mohammad Shahid, hit 20 boundaries and two sixes.

Having twice fallen for 157 in his 41-Test career, Azhar moved past that score by edging off-spinner Shuvagata Hom for a boundary.

He brought up his 200 by lofting Shakib for a six, while Shafiq quietly moved to his sixth Test century with a single off left-arm spinner Taijul Islam.

Shuvagata removed Azhar and Shafiq in successive overs before tea, both batsmen falling to catches on the long-off fence by Mahmudullah.

Taijul dismissed Wahab and also sent back Yasir off the last ball before tea to leave Sarfraz Ahmed unbeaten on 21.

Younis Khan had made 148 on the first day, adding 250 for the third wicket with Azhar, after Bangladesh`s Rahim won the toss and elected to field.

Bangladesh were hampered by a depleted attack, with seamer Shahadat Hossain sidelined with a knee injury after bowling just two balls in the match`s first over on Wednesday.

Of the nine bowlers used by the hosts -- skipper Rahim and Tamim Iqbal were the only ones who did not turn their arms over -- Shahid was the most impressive with figures of two for 72 in 31 overs.

Taijul was hammered for 179 runs for his three wickets and left-arm spinner Shakib went for 1-136 runs in 30 overs.

Pakistan are seeking their first win at the end of the month-long tour, after they were routed 3-0 in the one-day series and also lost a Twenty20 international for the first time against Bangladesh.
