Spot-fixing: Sreesanth confesses, 2 more players under scanner

Arrested Indian pacer S Sreesanth and 13 others, including two other cricketers of Rajasthan Royals franchise, were on Thursday sent to police custody for five days by a court here for being quizzed in connection with the IPL spot-fixing scandal case. He also said the fixing is not limited to this edition of the IPL only. He also confirmed a foreign hand in the scandal. The name of Sunil Abhichandani has come up and he is a notorious better who operates from Dubai. He also said that a wealth of information has been gathered from the arrested bookies. ==================================================================================== It was also reported that Delhi police has claimed that a few more Rajasthan Royals players might be involved in the spot-fixing scandal. Delhi police sources claimed that after interrogating the player-turned-bookie Amit Singh they have come to know two names-batsmen Brad Hodge and Ajinkya Rahane. It was revealed that the two batsmen are also under the Delhi police scanner. ==================================================================================== S Sreesanth & Ankeet Chavan confess to spot-fixing S Sreesanth, the Rajasthan Royals player, who was arrested along with his two other teammates for his alleged involvement in spot-fixing in the IPL 6, has accepted that he has committed the crime, sources in the Zee News claimed. He, however, reportedly told the investigative officer that he was framed by the bookie Jiju Janardan. ==================================================================================== Ankeet Chavan, another accused in the case, broke down in police custody and has confessed to spot-fixing in IPL 6. He said greed got better of him and he has made a huge mistake. ==================================================================================== Raids in Tamil Nadu Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu Police have conducted searches in several places in Chennai in connection with alleged IPL fixing and betting. Crime-Branch CID sources said raids were on in city but declined to divulge details, including the locations. He helped the bookies contacting the vulnerable players. ==================================================================================== More IPL matches under scanner After the arrest of three Rajasthan Royals players for their alleged involvement in spot-fixing, it was learnt that more IPL matches under scanner including some matches of IPL 5. It was reported that the transcript of the taped conversation between Ajit Chandila and a bookie revealed that Ajit Chandila was involved in spot-fixing in the last IPL also. Meanwhile, Delhi police sources said that though they could trace spot-fixing in three matches but there are chances that wrongdoings took place in more matches involving Rajasthan Royals and even other IPL franchises. Sreesanth claims innocence Indian pace bowler S Sreesanth, who along with others, is embroiled in a spot-fixing controversy that has rocked the ongoing IPL, on Thursday claimed in a Delhi court that he is innocent and was framed in the scandal. Advocate Deepak Prakash, who appeared for Sreesanth, said on Friday that the cricketer is innocent and there is no evidence against him in the case. "The police have not produced any direct evidence against Sreesanth. He is innocent and has been framed in the case", he said.
