Maharashtra leaders laud Sachin

Mumbai: Political leaders from Sachin Tendulkar`s home state Maharashtra on Friday lauded the ace cricketer on becoming the first batsman in the history to score 100 international centuries.

"Sachin has brought laurels not only to Maharashtra, but also the nation by his feat," chief minister Prithviraj Chavan said, in his reaction to Sachin`s feat.

Sachin has always been committed to the sport and valued his contribution for the team and the country over personal records, Chavan said.

Deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar said all Indians are proud of Sachin`s achievement. "He has fulfilled all cricket lovers` wish," Pawar said.

Leader of Opposition in State Legislative Council Vinod Tawde of BJP said this century was the pinnacle of Sachin`s achievements so far. It will be some time before anyone can eclipse his feat, Tawde said.

PWD minister Chhagan Bhujbal said, the moment the entire cricket world was waiting, came at last at Mirpur. This deed will be etched in history, he said.

RPI leader Ramdas Athawale said Sachin should be honoured with the Bharat Ratna for his achievement.
