Mohali: BCCI president Shashank Manohar, who was supposed to watch the second day’s proceedings of the first Test between India and Australia and later attend a felicitation function by Punjab Cricket Association was, chose to stay away from both.

The official version given by the BCCI treasurer and PCA general secretary MP Pandove is that Manohar is indisposed but there were rumours Manohar consciously stayed away from the event since PCA president IS Bindra showed solidarity with former BCCI vice-president and IPL commissioner Lalit Modi.

Interestingly, Modi remains the vice-president of the PCA.

“You should not read too much into his (Manohar) absence. He is suffering from fever and stomach upset and that’s why he couldn’t make it. I have personally spoken to Mr Manohar and he had made all travel arrangements. But he had to cancel his trip due to ill-health.

There is no other reason,” Pandove told an agency today.

Incidentally, Bindra had said that no one can be marginalised for ever in reference to BCCI removing the former IPL supremo from all posts of the board. Bindra had also cited former BCCI chief Jagmohan Dalmiya’s acquittal from all charges as an example that everyone can make a comeback.

When Pandove was asked whether Manohar distanced himself from the PCA felicitation, he was dismissive.

“I think Mr Bindra was quoted out of context. He cited Dalmiya’s example stating that how he came back. I don’t think his comments are an issue,” Pandove concluded.
