Kandy: Shaun Marsh is set to make his Test debut after being confirmed as a replacement for Ricky Ponting in the team for the second Test in Kandy, which starts on Thursday.
Ponting has flown back home for the birth of his second child.
It means Marsh will become the first son of a Test player - his father Geoff had played 50 times for Australia, to don a Baggy Green since Syd Gregory’s debut in 1912.
Gregory’s father Ned had played in the first official Test match in 1877, a daily reports.
Marsh’s inclusion is the only change from the team, which won the first Test in Galle by 125 runs.
The 28-year-old has played 35 ODIs for Australia over the past three years.
