McCullum says Kiwis looking to build on ‘historic’ success against ProteasWellington: New Zealand captain Brendan McCullum has said the team would be looking to get as consistent as possible following their unexpected one-day international series win over mighty South Africa at their home. An ODI series win in South Africa, the first in any format for New Zealand after 60 years of playing international cricket in the Republic, represents a good starting point for the Black Caps.

The third and final ODI against South Africa may be a dead rubber, with the tourists up 2-0, but the Kiwis are eyeing a series whitewash over South Africa at their home. McCullum said Kiwis have had starting points before, granted, but they were never really kicked on from those and that`s what the next challenge will be. McCullum added to really ensure that they actually use this opportunity, working from a position of strength, to be able to develop and become more consistent and that`s when they are going to get that real love across the board from the New Zealand public.

The captain added it is important to realise that we looked the giants in the eye and were able to come away with some success and that`s a really good starting point to be able to work from. McCullum added they certainly don`t think that by winning the series everyone expects them to be the world dominating team on a consistent basis, but he thinks it does show they are trending in the right direction.
