New Delhi: Australian pace spearhead Mitchell Johnson has reportedly refused a lucrative contract incentive from Cricket Australia (CA) to play in the 2015 Indian Premier League (IPL) season.

Certainly aware of the jam-packed schedule starting with 2015 Cricket World Cup, Cricket Australia wanted to preserve it's most indispensable asset by keeping him out of the hugely demanding IPL. However, the 33-year-old has opted to play IPL 8, reports The Daily Telegraph.

The fast bowler has played crucial roles in Australia's recent campaigns with his indomitable spirit. He single-handedly destroyed the visiting English team in the return-Ashes early last year in a series whitewash.

Then, in the subsequent Tests – against South Africa and India – he spearheaded Aussie attack in victories. And once again, he will play a key role in their bid to win a historic World Cup at home.

Notably, Johnson missed the fourth and final Test against India due to injury and is fighting to get match fit to play in the tri-series involving India and England, which starts in January 16. After the tri-series, they will play in the World Cup.

Australia will tour West Indies just after the World Cup before the much awaited Ashes series in England. Then, they will tour Bangladesh ahead of a long home summer. With such a tight schedule, Australia can't afford to lose their premier bowler due to burn out or injury.

Johnson's fellow players, Ryan Harris and Brad Haddin have already accepted Cricket Australia's offers and will not play in this year's lucrative Twenty20 league in India.
