New York, May 12: `Pulp Fiction` director Quentin Trantino plans to make a prequel to his World War II drama `Inglourious Basterds` if the Brad Pitt starer becomes a hit.
The 46-year-old director already has a half written
script for the second edition of the `Basterds`.
"I have a half-written prequel ready to go if this movie`s a smash," Tarantino told New York Times in an interview.
`Inglorious Basterds` will premiere at this year`s Cannes Film Festival on May 20 and is also in competition for the coveted Palm d`Or trophy. The American director had earlier won the award in 1994 for `Pulp Fiction`.
`Inglourious Basterds` revolves around a group of Jewish-American soldiers, who are chosen to kill Nazies during the World War II.
"Once the Basterds get through with Europe, they could go to the South and do it to the Kluxers in the `50s. That`s another story you could tell," Tarantino told the publication hinting that the prequel could deal with the shelved "Basterds" subplot.
"Not to mention a shelved subplot about African-American soldiers stuck behind enemy lines," said Tarantino.
The film which stars Brad Pitt, Mike Myers, Diane Kruger, Michael Fassbender, Julie Dreyfus, Paul Rust and Melanie Laurent will open in the US on August 21.
