Sandeep Patil appointed selection committee chairmanZeenews Sports Bureau

New Delhi: World Cup-winning 1983 team member Sandeep Patil has been appointed as the chairman of the national cricket selection committee on Thursday.

Srikkanth (South Zone) and fellow-selectors Narendra Hirwani (Central), Raja Venkat (East) and Surendra Bhave (West) have completed their term and are not eligible to continue as per the Board`s norms.

Roger Binny (South Zone), Saba Karim (East Zome), Vikram Rathore (North Zone) and Rajinder Singh Hans (Central Zone) and Sandeep Patil (West Zone) are the members of selection committee.

Former India and Mumbai player Chandrakant Pandit was named as the chairman of junior selection committee.

However, BCCI dropped Mohinder Amarnath from the five-man selection committee panel after completing just one year representing the North Zone.

Punjab`s Vikram Rathore will replace the former cricketer as the zonal selector. Earlier, Amarnath was the frontrunner for the chief selector’s post replacing outgoing Krishnamachari Srikkanth but a tiff he had with Srikkanth might have played spoilsport.

"Mohinder Amarnath had a tiff with Srikkanth as he wanted to replace (Mahendra Singh) Dhoni with (Virender) Sehwag (in the aftermath of India`s row of eight Test defeats in England and Australia). As captain of Chennai Super Kings, Dhoni has the backing of the president (N Srinivasan)," an official of a BCCI affiliate had said on condition of anonymity.

I really surprise for ion of Rohith sharma & Vijay for ICC champions thropy instead of Gambhir & Yuvaraj. This is very poor decesion for ODIS. Rohith is not a good batsman in 50 over game & his fielding also not upto the mark, he played well in IPL matches only, based on that if ed, sundeep patil should have no knowledge in cricket & vijay is one who had no talent in ODIS, his ion also wonder as opener instead of Gambhir. Gambhir is a very good batsman in ODIS. I have one more doubt why dhoni doing this much of politics in india team along with commitee, even the committe would watch all those things, but can`t do anything. So patil team would take some decesion on that & give more chance to youngstars, then only we can prepare one sachin in future. So pls give less chance to Dhoni on ion of players.

The Indian Cricket Board has become the fiefdom of N. Srinivasan and he does exactly what he wishes to and dreams about. The sacking of Mohinder ``Jimmy`` Amarnath is nothing but a joke. Amarnath has always been an intelligent & thinking cricketer unlike the likes of Srikanth who not only was an idiotic batsman but a very poor judge of the game. As for sacking Jimmy the ion committee is the loser not Jimmy. I wish him the very best. Another humble opinion - MS Dhoni has grown too big for his boots and needs to come down to earth. He is a good cricketer and needs to steer away from power politics and focus on his game which is slipping. Vinod Rao

Being fothright and outspoken is a crime in our land of sycophants . Mohinder Amarnath like his illustrious father is long known for not mincing his words , which mediocre fellows sitting at the top find difficult to stomach

This is the state of affairs in every field in India be it games, science and technology or any other field. The powerful people do not want defiant and deserving people to move up the ladder and continue. The cartel expels any promising person who opposes thier whims and fancies.Mohinder Amarnath is a truly competent person which tells about state of affairs in our sports, culture and science and technology where only yes man are preferred over controversial yet competent persons of extra ordinary calibre.A maverick has some eccentricity but it is to be tolerated if he or she works in the interests of nation and its people.
