More than Sourav Ganguly's absence, Ravi Shastri is upset with rejection: Sanjay Manjrekar

Ganguly earlier said that he was severely disappointed since the remarks have come from someone who has been a part of various BCCI committees for the last 20 years.

New Delhi: Sharing his opinion on Ravi Shastri's remarks over former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly, former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar has said that the Mumbaikar is not used to rejection and it's something which has hurt him more than Ganguly's absence.

Manjrekar took to Twitter to share his thoughts over Shastri's going in public to express his disappointment over Ganguly's absence from the interview process.

After the interview was done, Shastri revealed that former Indian skipper was not present while he gave his presentation through video.

"If he was present, he would have asked some questions. I wish he was there," Shastri told Mumbai Mirror.

When asked what could be the reason behind Ganguly's absence, Shastri told The Times of India, "All I can that is that Ganguly wasn't there when I was interviewed and you should ask what problem Ganguly has with me instead of asking me."

Breaking his silence over Shastri's comment, Ganguly said that he was extremely saddened and also had a piece of advice for the Mumbaikar, who said the Prince of Kolkata should have been present during the high-profile interview.

"He has given me an advice that next time when there is such meeting, I should be present. I also have an advice for him. When the coach of India is selected, he should be in front of the committee giving his presentation, instead of spending Holiday in Bangkok," the former Kolkata batsman said.

Ganguly further added that he was severely disappointed since the remarks have come from someone who has been a part of various BCCI committees for the last 20 years.

Speaking to reporters, Ganguly said, "I am extremely saddened and disappointed by Ravi Shastri's comments...I was reading it in couple of newspapers in last three to four days but chose to ignore it. Especially from someone who has been in BCCI committee for the last 20 years," the 43-year-old said.

Having done well as the team director of the Indian cricket team for 18 months, Shastri was the frontrunner to bag the top job, before Anil Kumble threw his hat into the ring.

The legendary leggie, who has mentored Royal Challengers Bangalore and Mumbai Indians in the past, bowled over the 'holy trinity' with his detailed and well-researched presentation.
