Mumbai: Skipper Suryakumar Yadav failed in his bid to hit a double hundred after starting the day at 100 not out, but that did not stop Mumbai from piling up an imposing 526 for nine declared against Gujarat in the West Zone C K Nayudu tie.
Yadav struck a run-a-ball 181, studded with 27 fours and four sixes, while Siddesh Lad, who put on 181 runs along with his skipper, made 120 in 286 balls with the help of 19 fours.
The duo carried on from the overnight 218 for three before being separated at 331 on day two of the four-day match at MCA`s Bandra-Kurla complex ground.
A painstaking 69 from Gaurav Jathar in 207 minutes kept the lower order together, while Jesal Karia (4 for 80) was the most successful bowler.
In two overs` batting, Gujarat failed to score with openers Avi Barot and captain Priyank Panchal at the crease.
