No great change in players’ dressing room relationship over Pietersen: Tim Bresnan
London: Denying reports of victimization of star batsman Kevin Pietersen, England pacer Tim Bresnan has said there has been no great change in the relationship between the players and all get along well in the dressing room.
Pietersen hinted that he might announce his retirement from Test cricket after the third Test against South Africa, to be played at Lord’s, unless the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) agrees to an acceptable compromise.
His latest announcement has affected his standing in the dressing room, with the player feeling ignored, and viewing his teammates with suspicion over a recent twitter parody account.
Reports have also suggested that the relationship between Pietersen and some of his colleagues in the England dressing room is among the “obstacles” he admitted must be overcome if he is to remain an international cricketer.
“Kevin Pietersen will be the centre of attention when we come together again at Lord’s for the final Test against South Africa next week. He scored a brilliant 149 and we want more of that from him this time,” Bresnan wrote in the Daily Mirror.
“Kevin mentioned the dressing room in his post-match comments at ¬Headingley, but I can assure you there has been no great change in the relationship between the players.
“The lads all generally rub along well together and if anyone has an issue, whether it is Kev or anybody else, we can all talk to each other and get it sorted. But if players want to be left alone then that is fine too.
“There has always been banter between us all and Kevin has been a big part of that on both sides. All teams have it and it is healthy. As far as I’m concerned the England dressing room is still a great place to be and when we cross the boundary rope we are all pulling in the same direction.”
Bresnan further said that the other issues surrounding Pietersen are for him to sort out with the ECB and he was sure that the disgruntled batsman would do whatever he wants to do.
