Mohali: When the whole country witnessed the Indian team defeating Pakistan in front of a packed home crowd in Mohali, five National selectors, headed by K Srikkanth, returned to their respective homes after being humiliated in Chandigarh on Tuesday.
According to reports, the selectors, who had confirmed room bookings at Taj, were denied accommodation by the hotel authorities citing lack of space as reason.
One of the reasons for lack of space was the presence of a large entourage from across the border. The Pakistan Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani had come to the city with a large delegation as a result of which some reservations had to be cancelled. Besides, the hotel houses members of the India and Pakistan team.
Unconfirmed reports said that a delegation of the International Cricket Council (ICC) was also staying in the hotel. But sources say only a few important members, besides the teams and match officials, were put up in the hotel.
Meanwhile, India beat archrivals Pakistan in a thumping fashion to script a final showdown with Sri Lanka on Saturday. Chasing 261 to win, Pakistan fell short by 29 runs at Mohali, a result that saw India’s World Cup record remain intact (India have won all five encounters against Pak in World Cup).
The victory saw the tournament favourites sending a strong warning to the Lankans as Team India set sights on World Cup immortality.
