NZC to resist CA`s likely bid to sign Wright as coach
Auckland: New Zealand Cricket (NZC)’s Director of Cricket John Buchanan has said that he would resist any advances from Cricket Australia (CA) to sign Black Caps coach John Wright to replace Tim Nielsen as the new Australian cricket coach.
“He [Wright] is contracted until the end of the West Indies tour [in July next year] and the view would be that he is definitely off limits,” a leading daily quoted Buchanan, as saying.
“We are just at the stage of re-establishing our coaching ranks and so it wouldn’t be very opportune for a turnover. We would certainly be very keen for John to go through to the end of this contract and then, hopefully, if all things go well, we’d look to extend him,” he added.
Nielsen, who resigned in September, is unlikely to be reappointed after being told to re-apply for the role following the recommendations made by the ‘Argus Review’.
Other candidates likely to be interviewed for the job are former Sri Lanka coach Tom Moody, former New Zealand coach Steve Rixon and former South Africa coach Mickey Arthur.
