Oz police to closely monitor Tamil protests during Boxing Day Test

Australian police will keep a close eye on the protests planned during the Boxing Day Test match between Australia and Sri Lanka in Melbourne.

Sydney: Australian police will keep a close eye on the protests planned during the Boxing Day Test match between Australia and Sri Lanka in Melbourne by The Tamil Refugee Council against the human right violations committed by the Sri Lankan government.
A demonstration outside the MCG on the first day of the Boxing Day Test between Australia and Sri Lanka has been planned, the Age reports. The group wants to boycott the Sri Lankan cricket team and raise awareness of human rights violations, it added. Victoria Police Superintendent Rod Wilson said officers have met with the group ahead of the Test series and discussed the planned protest and have a separate policing operation to deal with that. Wilson added as long as the protest was peaceful, they had no issues with it. Between 65,000 and 70,000 people are expected to attend the first day of the Test. ANI
