Islamabad: Former Pakistan Test captain Wasim Akram has said that it is necessary for Pakistani bowlers to master the art of swing bowling for winning in international games.
Akram, who will train around 15 current and upcoming bowlers at a training camp in Karachi from April 20-29, expressed his disappointment at the fast bowlers` performances in South Africa and said that he will try to teach them how to swing the ball for performing well at international level. The `Sultan of swing` further said that for a fast bowler to excel at the international level, he will have to bear with the scorching sun and heat and train himself, adding that it is a continuous process of learning. Stating that lanky Mohammad Irfan needed to work hard on his fitness after taking just two wickets in two Tests against the Proteas, the former left-arm fast bowler however, said that if Irfan, who is the world`s tallest bowler, keeps fit then he can play for three to four years. Akram, who took 414 Test and 502 one-day wickets, also expressed hope that India will allow Pakistan players to feature in their lucrative Twenty20 Indian Premier League (IPL). Akram was invited to mentor the bowlers at the training camp by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) ahead of the eight-nation Champions Trophy in England in June, after Pakistan pace-men failed to impress on tour in South Africa earlier this year, the report added.
