Mirpur: Bangladeshi batsmen choked at the last moment as Pakistan took the first ODI of the Asia Cup by 21 runs at Mirpur on Sunday.

Highlights from the Bangladesh innings

48.1 Out! And it’s all over for Bangladesh. A full and straight delivery from Umar Gul and Shakib Al Hasan’s lone struggle came to an end. he was bowled and became Gul's third victim. Pakistan won by 21 runs.

Over 45.5 A superb delivery from Umar Gul in the block hole and Shafiul Islam was hit on the toes. Gul appealed and got his second wicket of the match.

Over 44.6 Out! Bangladeshi batsmen played one poor stroke after another, gifting their wicket to the bowlers. This time the culprit was Mashrafe Mortaza who tried a wild stroke, playing Ajmal through the line. It was a doosra and he completely missed it to be bowled.

Over 44.1 Bowled! Abdur Razzaq went for a wild slog and missed the ball completely to be bowled by Saeed Ajmal.

Over 43.3 Bowled! Umar Gul stunned the crowd with the wicket of Nasir Hossain. Pitched on the middle, Hossain played a casual stroke and was beaten by the pace. The ball crashed on the stumps.

Over 36.4 Finally a boundary! Nasir Hossain pulled Aizaz Cheema towards mid wicket boundary for four.

Over 28.4 And Hafeez struck again! Mahmudullah attempted a sweep, missed it and the ball struck his pads. Pakistan appealed and umpired adjudged him out.

Over 28.3 Bangladesh lost the wicket of in-form batsman Tammim Iqbal. He became the third batsmen from the Bangladeshi team to have been bowled. He too attempted a cut but ended playing it on to the stumps as Mohammad Hafeez got his first wicket.

Over 24.3 Tamim Iqbal completed his half-century and as he raised his bat to acknowledge it, pointed his bat towards someone at the dressing room.

Over 22.3 Mushfiqur Rahim tried a cut but there wasn’t enough room for the shot and the ball hit the off stump ending his brief stay.

Over 20.5 Shahid Afridi lured Jahurul Islam to go for a slog sweep but the right-hander missed the shot and the ball crashed on his stumps.

Over 12.2 50 up for Bangladesh. After a slow start, Nazimuddin increased the scoring rate milking Umar Gul’s fourth over for 14 runs that included two fours and a six towards deep square leg.

Over 10.5 Aizaz Cheema got Pakistan the breakthrough they wanted. Nazimuddin went hard at a short and wide delivery and edged it to the third man where Umar Gul completed a nicely judged catch.

Highlights from the Pakistan innings

Over 48.6 Mashrafe Mortaza removed Umar Gul. Gul was undone by a legcutter as the ball landed on stumps ending his cameo.

Over 41.2 Wickets began to tumble for Pakistan. Chances of huge total looked bleak at this stage. Razzak managed to breach Misbah's defenses and crashed into the middle and leg stump.

Over 39.6 Shakib Al Hasan removes dangerman Afridi. Pakistan on backfoot here after losing sixth wicket.

Over 39.3 Umar Akmal got a top edge, which went high up in the air, Razzak settled under it nicely at deep midwicket.

Over 36.3 Hafeez was soon followed by Asad Shafiq. Shahadat Hossain's wickets tally reach 3 with this wicket . Pakistan 175/4.

Over 32.5 Younis Khan departed after a short stint at the crease. Poor shot from the veteran, it was full and on middle, Younis Khan was looking to flick it over midwicket but mistimed.

Over 20.1: Hafeez completed his 13th ODI fifty! Pakistan were 103 for no loss after 20 overs. His partner Jamshed too showed hurriedness on the crease, dancing down the track on few occassions and was successful in clearing the boundary once.

Over 17: Bangladeshi bowlers struggling to put a stop to the flow of runs as Pak openers kept raising the tempo. They are in for a healthy partnership. Good news for Pakistan. They were 73 for no loss after 17 overs.

Over 14: Fifty for Pakistan! Openers Hafeez and Jamshed overcame early jittery and completed a 50-run opening partnership. They werer 52 after 14 overs.

Over 10: Bangladesh produced some good fielding so far which made scoring difficult for Pakistan. They were just 36 after 10 overs. But hosts are yet find their first breakthrough.

Over 6: Slow start!
Sent into bat, Pakistan took off in a slow pace as they made 15/0 at the end of the 6th over.

Bangladesh captain Mushfiqur Rahim won the toss and elected to bowl against Pakistan in the first match of the Asia Cup cricket tournament.
