PCB not happy with Hafeez`s unilateral approach
Lahore: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has no intention of removing Mohammad Hafeez as Twenty20 captain but was clearly unhappy with his unilateral and non-consultative approach while making selection decisions.
Hafeez met with PCB chairman Zaka Ashraf during the board`s executive coordination committee, which took stock of Pakistan`s ICC world Twenty20 campaign, and clarified his position on the issue of rift between PCB not happy with Hafeez`s unilateral approach
him and senior all-rounder Abdul Razzaq during the World Twenty20.
"The interesting part is when the Razzaq issue came up, Hafeez claimed it was a collective decision by the team management and coach Dav Whatmore also supported him in his argument," a PCB source told PTI.
But some members of the committee had firm views that Hafeez was too dominating during the whole tournament and was interfering in every area of the team selection.
"For now, there are no plans to remove Hafeez as Pakistan`s next international tour is in December when they go to India and then head to South Africa. But the committee has decided to closely monitor Hafeez`s performance as well," he added.
The source said that the coach and captain pointed out two main weaknesses in the areas of fielding and fitness level of players during the meeting.
