Perth ODI: As it happened
Perth: R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja played a sensible knock to stitched an a crucial partnership that drove India home in the second ODI at Perth on Wednesday. India chased down a target of 234 runs against Sri Lanka to register their first win of the CB series.
Here is how the match panned out:
5: 44 p.m. Over 47: India clinch Perth ODI by four wickets as Ashwin and Jadeja stitched an unbeaten partnership of 53 runs runs to drive India home. India won the ODI by six wickets.
5: 18 p.m. Over 41: 200 up for India.
4:57 p.m. Over 36: Out! Virat Kohli was run out after attempting a close single but was found short of his crease after Malinga’s direct hit. He departed after scoring 77. India were 181/6.
4: 46 p.m. Over 34: Out! MS Dhoni played a bad short, top edging one towards long on to hand Malinga a simple catch. He was the fifth wicket to fall and Dhamika Prasad’s first wicket of the match.
4: 37 p.m. Over 33: Out! Suresh Raina (24) got out to a short ball as he was caught by Senanayake (sub) off Mathews at deep midwicket.
4:33 p.m. Over 32: 150 up for India.
4:05 p.m. Over 26: Perera got the wicket of Rohit Sharma as the righty was brilliantly caught at point by Dilshan. He departed after scoring 10 runs. India were 122/3.
Sharma, who was agonizingly kept out of the final playing XI throughout the Test series against Australia, squandered another chance to prove himself.
4:05 p.m. Over 26: Virat Kohli completed his half century with a boundary off Perera past mid on.
3: 55 p.m. Over 24: 100 up for India. Virat Kohli pulled Prasad for a boundary to bring drive India’s core past 100 runs.
2: 54 p.m. Over 10: India are 47/1 with Sachin(26) and Kohli(9) on crease.
2:19 p.m. Over 3: Malinga dropped one short as Sehwag cut it towards the third man region where Kulasekera took a comfortable catch. India were 14/1.
2:08 p.m. Over 1: Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag take guard in the middle as Lasith Malinga starts Sri Lanka’s defence.
Sri Lankan innings
1:18 p.m. Over 50: R Vinay finally got a wicket against his name in the last over of the Lankan innings as he dismissed Kulasekara.
12:58 p.m. Over 46: A poor communication between Lahiru Thirimanne and Angelo Mathews cost the former his wicket as he was run out after scoring 7. Dhoni, who had a busy day behind stumps took of the bails off as Lahiru was found stranded in the middle.
12:55 p.m. Over 46: 200 up for Sri Lanka
12:47 p.m. Over 44: Out! Chandimal’s innings finally came to an end as he was stumped by Dhoni off R Ashwin`s bowling. He left after scoring 64. Sri Lanka were 189/6.
12:31 p.m. Over 40: Thisara Perera (7) went dancing down the track attempting an ambitious drive but was stumped by Dhoni off R Ashwin. The south paw couldn’t get his back foot behind the line on time as Dhoni removed the bails in a hurry. Sri Lanka were 172/5.
12:28 p.m. Over 39: 50 for Dinesh Chandimal. The talented right hander completed his half century in 66 deliveries that included 4 fours.
12:24 p.m. Over 39: R Vinay comes back for a second spell after bowling with a good rhythm and pace in the first one, giving away only 19 runs in his first five overs that included a maiden.
12:10 p.m. Over 36: Out! A miscued short from captain Mahela was caught in the deep square leg region by Rohit Sharma off Ashwin. He departed after scoring 23 runs. Sri Lanka 152/4.
11:34 a.m. Over 25: Jadeja removed dangerous Dilshan to leave Sri Lanka 3 down. A rather soft dismissal as the set batsman tried cutting Jadeja towards point but found Kohli who took a good low catch to end his innings at 48. Sri Lanka were 101/3 half way down the innings.
11:31 a.m. Over 24: 100 up! A neat leg glance from Dinesh Chandimal off Praveen for a boundary brings up 100 for Sri Lanka.
11: 28 a.m. Over 23: First boundary since 66 deliveries! Dilshan played it late behind point for a much needed boundary.
11:20 a.m. Over 20: In the bowling powerplay India were extremely tight as they conceded only 11 runs.
11:07 a.m. Over 17: Out! Terrific effort from MS Dhoni behind the stumps as he snaffled one off Zaheer to end Sangakkara’s innings at 26. Sri Lanka 74/2.
Dhoni dived full length towards his left as Sanga edged after offering bat to a bouncing delivery edging it towards first slip.
11: 00 a.m. Over 16: After losing Tharanga early in the third over, Sri Lankan innings was moving steadily as during the first drinks break, they were 72/1.
10: 39 a.m. Overs 11: 50 up for Sri Lanka after 11 overs.
10: 35 a.m. Over 11: Dilshan and Sangakkara have been firm on the crease and have driven the Lankan score past 40 runs after losing Tharanga early in their innings.
10:02 a.m. Over 3: Out! Zaheer Khan strikes early for India. Tharanga charged down the track, backing out at last moment. The ball moved away as the lefty pushed it towards slip for a simple catch to Tendulkar. He departed after scoring four runs. Sri Lanka 12/1
9: 58 a.m. Overs 2: First boundary for Lanka. A wide delivery from Praveen was dispatched through covers by Dilshan. The last delivery was treated similarly as Sri Lanka were 12/0.
9: 51 a.m. Over 1: Zaheer Khan and Praveen Kumar started the proceedings for India as Upul Tharanga and Tillakratne Dilshan took guard for Sri Lanka.
9:23 a.m: Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to bat first in the second ODI on Wednesday.
