PIL on UPCA and its Secy Rajiv Shukla "dismissed as withdrawn"

Allahabad: The Allahabad High Court on Tuesday dismissed as "withdrawn" a Public Interest Litigation seeking to restrain senior Congress leader Rajiv Shukla from functioning as Secretary of Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association and give directions for setting up a committee to probe alleged financial irregularities during his tenure.

A division bench, comprising Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud and Justice Yashwant Verma, passed the order after pointing out that the petitioner Rudrakant Mishra, an advocate, had not produced any "concrete documents in support of the PIL".

The petitioner had, besides the aforementioned prayers, requested for directions "to frame a completely transparent mechanism for selection of cricket players on the basis of merit" and quashing of an MoU signed in June this year whereby the state government had agreed to lease out Kanpur-based Green Park Stadium to UPCA.

The court has, however, told the petitioner that he was "at liberty to file a fresh petition along with supporting documents".
