New Delhi: The BCCI stated on Thursday that players selected for the Indian team will be judged on basis of performance and not age. Veteran Harbhajan Singh who was selected for the tour of Sri Lanka was backed by the BCCI because of his good performance against Bangladesh since his comeback.
The BCCI who selected the 15-member squad for the Test series against Sri Lanka, stated that outcast Gautam Gambhir wasn't discussed for the tour. They decided to go with KL Rahul, Murali Vijay and Shikhar Dhawan.
With Amit Mishra getting the nod as the third spinner ahead of Pragyan Ojha, the BCCI claimed that the left arm spinner was discussed, but looking at Sri Lankan wickets they decided to opt for a legspinner.
With Wriddhiman Saha getting selected as the only wicketkeeper, the BCCI said that, “We've backed Saha based on domestic performance. He's the right option at this stage and sets a good balance.”
The selectors were happy with India's performance in Zimbabwe which was led by Ajinkya Rahane. A young squad impressed the board and Harbhajan Singh was included in it because of his form. The squad for the Sri Lanka series.
