London: The man who introduced Kevin Pietersen to English cricket, Clive Rice, has urged England to strike a compromise and give KP one last chance.
England would be naming a 15-man squad for next month’s World T20 in Sri Lanka, and sources believe that Pietersen, 32, will be left out, unless he issues a grovelling apology.
Pietersen had a fallout with his England colleagues after he apparently sent a series of “provocative” texts to pals in the South African team, that have angered his team-mates.
In one of the texts, he is also accused to have referred to England captain Andre Strauss as a ‘dumb c***’.
However, South African Rice hopes KP will swallow his pride and open the door for England to recall him.
“I’ve texted advising him to kowtow to the bosses and do what they need him to do. England should pick him, give him one last chance but spell out exactly what is expected of him,”.
“Strauss and team director Andy Flower need to sit him down and tell him this is unacceptable and we don’t want any more of it.They should tell him in no uncertain terms what the boundaries are and that if he steps out of line again he will be out forever,” he added.
Pietersen``s isolation from the England team follows a remarkable self-promoted interview, in which he retracted his earlier retirement from limited-overs cricket and offered to curtail his lucrative Twenty20 gigs to play all formats for England.
