PSL final: Dwayne Smith, Brad Haddin guide Islamabad United to 6-wicket win over Quetta Gladiators

New Delhi: Dwayne Smith and Brad Haddin's fifties helped Islamabad United to a 6-wicket victory over Quetta Gladiators in the final of Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2016 at Dubai on Tuesday.

In the much-awaited final, Misbah-ul-Haq won the toss and chose to field first.

After losing two quick wickets of Bismillah Khan (0) and Kevin Pietersen (18), Ahmed Shehzad (64) and Kumar Sangakkara (55) resurrected the innings with a 87-run stand for third wicket.

That was the only healthy partnership for the Sarfraz Ahmed-led side as the middle-order failed to raise the tempo in the death overs and the team posted 174 runs at the end of 20 overs.

Andre Russell was the pick of the bowlers with three wickets while Mohammad Irfan picked two wickets for United.

In reply, Sharjeel Khan (12) and Smith (73) provided a solid 54-run opening stand and when the former was dismissed in the sixth over, Smith and Haddin stitched a match-winning 85-run stand for the second wicket, a partnership which broke the hearts of the Quetta fans.
