Rahul Dravid's advice to youngsters: Aspire to play all three formats, not just T20s

New Delhi: Former Indian cricketer Rahul Dravid has advised the youngsters of the game to be keen in playing all three formats of the game.

Fondly known as The Wall, Dravid, who was on Tuesday appointed as the new mentor of Delhi Daredevils, said the upcoming talent must focus on playing all formats.

"There are many examples of players who are equally successful in all formants including Test cricket. We tend to focus on T20 specialists but we also tend to forget that there are guys like Virat Kohli, (Shikhar) Dhawan and MS Dhoni, Ajinkya Rahane, who has had an incredible year. So there are good enough examples in the same team of players who have done well in all three formats," Dravid said.

"So my advice to youngsters is to aspire to play all three formats of the game. Why sell yourself short? Why play only one format, why not aspire to play in all three? "

Dravid, who was the mentor for the now suspended Rajasthan Royals, said that he was keen on building an atmosphere around the Daredevils which will encourage the players to learn.

Besides Dravid, Paddy Upton was appointed as the head coach of the Delhi franchise.

Besides the high-profile announcement, former Mumbai opener Zubin Bharucha, who was earlier part of Rajasthan Royals, was named as the technical director of the side.

Former India players Pravin Amre and Sridharan Sriram remained part of the support staff alongside T A Sekar. The squad will undergo a camp here in two phases with the first phase beginning today at the Teri Ground.
