Gujarat on Wednesday secured three points by virtue of their all-important 48-run first innings lead against hosts Saurashtra in their group league match of the Ranji Trophy cricket tournament, which ended in a tame draw.

Rajkot: Gujarat on Wednesday secured three points by virtue of their all-important 48-run first innings lead against hosts Saurashtra in their group league match of the Ranji Trophy cricket tournament, which ended in a tame draw.

After bowling out Saurashtra for 207, Gujarat managed 248 in their first essay to ensure three points. Saurashtra gave a better account of themselves in the second innings scoring 364 for five but didn't have time at their disposal to force an outright win.

Chasing a target of 324 runs to win, Gujarat made 130 for two in 48 overs when play was called off.

Priyank Panchal, unbeaten on 75 (139b, 8X4) and Rujul Bhatt (4) were at the crease, when both the captains agreed to end the game. Saurashtra got a point from the game.

Resuming at their overnight 280 for 3, the hosts declared their innings at 364 for five riding on Sheldon Jackson's 156.

Jackson, who was batting on 124 yesterday, added another 32 runs before getting out for 156.

Dharmendra Jadeja (21) and Prithvipal Solanki (17) were at the crease, when hosts' captain Jaydev Shah declared the innings.

Gujarat, who enjoyed having the vital first innings lead, lost two wickets in the form of Samit Gohil (15) and Bhargav Merai (36). Priyank Panchal made unbeaten 75 facing 139 balls with eight fours.

Brief scores- Saurashtra 207 and 364 for 5 dec off 115 overs (Sheldon Jackson 154, Arpit Vasavada 88, Axar Patel 2-101) drawn against Gujarat 248 and 130 for 2 off 48 overs (Priyank Panchal not out 75, Bhargav Merai 36).
