Cape Town: South African police investigating the suicide of iconic cricket journalist Peter Roebuck have reportedly found vital clues on his laptop.

Roebuck had plunged six storeys to his death from a Cape Town hotel room on Saturday.

According to the Sun, data found on Roebuck’s laptop was helping cops piece together the sequence of events which led to the tragedy.

They are also focusing on websites visited by Roebuck and a Facebook account.

“Police are confident the laptop will reveal the entire background of this tragic case. The machine’s hard drive is being examined,” a source close to the case told the tabloid.

According to reports, Roebuck had earlier been spoken to by Cape Town police, who were investigating claims of sexual assault, but the circumstances surrounding the death will not be officially released by South African police authorities for at least a month.

The 55-year-old was staying at the Southern Sun Hotel Newlands after covering the first Test between South Africa and Australia for the Sydney Morning Herald and ABC.
