Colombo: West Indian great and ICC Hall of famer Brian Charles Lara has lent his support to Sachin Tendulkar who has off-late drawn severe criticism from all around post his failures in the recently concluded Test series against New Zealand at home.
Contrary to the views expressed by various experts and former players that Tendulkar should retire from international cricket, Lara said that the decision should be his (Tendulkar) own.
"I believe Sachin would know when is the right time to leave. He is an asset to the world cricket, not only to Indian cricket," Lara said to a news channel in an interview.
“You don’t just push a guy like that. He is a great player and you just have to enjoy for whatever period he plays."
The former West Indies captain became the 17th West Indian cricketer to be inducted in the Hall of Fame at the ICC Awards ceremony on Saturday night.
