ICC U-19 World Cup: After stellar show, Sarfaraz Khan arrives to hero's welcome

New Delhi: Young Sarfaraz Khan did his reputation no harm at the recently concluded ICC U-19 World Cup in Bangladesh.

Though he didn't return with a winner's medal, the stocky right-hander achieved several personal milestones during the tournament.

Sarfaraz was in fine form right through the World Cup, scoring 355 runs with five fifties. He finished with a 51 in the final and an enviable average of 71.

According to a report in the Times of India, he was accorded a hero's welcome by friends and family upon his return from Dhaka.

Before his arrival, dining tables in rows were set up in the building compound of his Kurla (West) home. The poster of Sarfaraz and his younger brother Musheer was placed on a window grill, with a felicitation planned in the eveninig.

As soon as the car with the U-19 batsman and his parents arrived, they were given a confetti-laden welcome.

“I enjoyed the whole experience. We worked really hard to get to the final. Even there we fought till the end, so it was a great learning experience,“ Sarfaraz told TOI.

The 18-year-old batted with great maturity for the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League last year.

Now with his good show at the World Cup, Sarfaraz is getting ready for the next level.
