Setback for MCA`s plan to test Wankhede as match shifted
Mumbai: Mumbai Cricket Association`s plans to assess the readiness of the Wankhede Stadium ahead of World Cup ties received a setback as a test event - an U-19 inter-zonal match - had to be shifted due to non-availability of the ground.
"We have decided not to conduct the U-19 match as we have not been handed over the ground by the firm which is in charge revamping the stadium. We will conduct matches as soon as we are handed over the ground," said MCA Jt. Secretary Lalchand Rajput.
“The match, which was scheduled to be held tomorrow, will now be held at the Bandra Kurla Complex ground of MCA,” he added.
The stadium has undergone massive renovation from mid-2008 to prepare it to host three World Cup matches, including the final on April 2.
Apart from the summit clash, the stadium is set to host two other matches: New Zealand v/s Canada (March 13) and New Zealand v/s Sri Lanka (March 18).
