Shahid Afridi wish to play in Big Bash League this season

New Delhi: Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi on Monday expressed his desire to play in Big Bash League in Australia this season.

"I was offered to play Big Bash League in Australia almost every season in the last two or three years but I wasn't able to take the offer due to my international commitments," Afridi told cricket.com.au.

"But if I am offered it this year I'll surely give it a go," the 36-year-old added.

The veteran all-rounder is currently playing for Hampshire in NatWest T20 Blast in England.

Afridi, who was dumped by Pakistan after poor Asia Cup and World T20 campaigns, said he is confident of playing once again for the national side and informed PCB chief selector about his availability accordingly.

"I'll be available for the national team whenever it needs me. In fact before coming (to this interview) I spoke with the chief selector Inzamam-ul-Haq and told him that it is good to have youngsters in the team but in case he needs me I will be available," he said.

"I am very focused on cricket and want to continue it. I am looking after myself very well and working hard on my fitness.. I still feel that I can play for the next couple of years whether it is for Pakistan or PSL (Pakistan Super League), Big Bash or England (domestic) T20s," he added.

The sixth season of Big Bash League is scheduled to run from December 20, 2016 to January 28, 2017, with eight city-based franchises competing in it.
