Shane Watson under scanner in Mohali TestSydney: All eyes would be set on Australian vice captain Shane Watson during the third Test match against India in Mohali, as the veteran all rounder has failed to perform in the first two Test matches.

Watson hasn`t scored a Test hundred since his 126 in Mohali in October 2010, and he hasn`t fired a big either in this series.

Watson came to India last month aiming to prove his critics wrong that he couldn`t command a regular place in the side as a specialist batsman, having announced he won`t bowl in this series as he regains bowling fitness following injury.

A batsman of obvious talent, the two-time Allan Border Medallist has dominated short-form cricket but alarmingly has failed to turn half-centuries into hundreds in Tests, with a strike-rate of two centuries after reaching the 50-mark 21 times.

On this tour Watson hasn`t even got that far with scores of 28, 79, 23 and nine, and skipper Michael Clarke`s move into the top four could mean Watson goes back to No.3.

This would give former opener Watson more of a crack at the new ball, which is what he has yearned for since being moved to No.4 three months ago.
